Springbok head coach Rassie Erasmus expressed that he is unconcerned about the possibility of facing the All Blacks in wet weather when the two sides meet in their next Greatest Rivalry Tour assignment in Cape Town this weekend.
South Africa was left red-faced following their 33-16 loss against New Zealand in their initial fixture at Ellis Park last Saturday, as the Springboks pondered ill-discipline and crucial handling errors throughout the match.
New Zealand remains unbeaten in their tour of South Africa so far, with their most recent result being a dramatic 41-35 comeback win over the Lions at Ellis Park on Tuesday night.
With South Africa and New Zealand set to square off in Cape Town this weekend, a wet weather forecast is predicted for the tie.
However, Erasmus expressed no qualms about the weather after his side opted to train in Johannesburg ahead of the keenly anticipated clash.
“We train Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday; most other teams train Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. So, we check the weather and I see there’s a 45 per cent chance of rain. But, you know, to practice in the rain is not going to make your game better,” Erasmus said.
“For us, the environment where we are here, we’re all used to our rooms; we’re all used to the guys having the recovery things here by the pool and by the ice baths and by the sauna. We’re very comfortable with our training facilities.
“We’re training at altitude so when we go there, it will be nice to have some more oxygen. So, for us just as a team, we decided it makes more sense for us.”
