2025-26 Spanish La Liga

Matchday 16

Atletico Madrid v Valencia

Estadio Metropolitano

Madrid, Spain

Saturday, 13 December 2025

Kick-off is at 15h00

Atletico Madrid will be desperate to snap-match losing streak which has seen them fall behind in the title race when they host Valencia at the Metropolitano on Saturday, December 13 in the early kick-off.

Los Colchoneros were just three points adrift of the La Liga summit after beating Real Oviedo 2-0 on November 29 and they had a real chance to put pressure on leaders Barcelona in a meeting at the Camp Nou three days later.

However, Diego Simeone's side suffered a 3-1 defeat to the Blaugrana, bringing an end to their 13-game unbeaten run, before they also lost 1-0 against Athletic Bilbao on December 6.

Atleti now find themselves nine points behind Barca in fourth place and have also seen Villarreal (3rd) and Real Madrid (2nd) pull four and five points clear of them respectively.

Los Ches endured a disappointing run of results during September and October, winning just one of their seven matches to be perched perilously close to the relegation zone.

But Carlos Corberan's side have gone unbeaten in their last four outings since being routed 4-0 by Los Blancos on November 1, with a 1-1 draw against Sevilla on December 7 giving them a three-point cushion to the bottom three in 15th spot.

Valencia have also improved their goal difference to -9 after conceding just three goals during that period and keeping only their fourth clean sheet of the season against Levante (a 1-0 win).

Simeone defended Atletico's record away from home this term, which has seen them pick up just eight points out of a possible 21, pointing out that most teams have struggled on the road.

"I repeat that if you look at almost all teams, except for the top ones, most have problems when they play away from home, and well, we have ours," the Argentine said.

"We've lost two matches, if I'm not mistaken, well, three now, three with this one, the third we've lost away from home. And well, we try (to win)...

"Teams are usually braver when they play at home and less so when they play away. But that happens to almost everyone, except for the few who are different. Most teams experience the same thing."
