Orlando Pirates will hope to be well rested following a rare layoff from their last Betway Premiership fixture as they prepare to battle Stellenbosch FC in Cape Town on Tuesday.
Pirates have been out of action for more than a week since their 1-1 draw with Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby on 26 April. They currently occupy second place on the log with four games to go.
During the layoff, log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns opened a five-point gap over Pirates. The latter have one game in hand as they look to win their first league title since the 2011/12 season.
Pirates will resume their league obligations with three wins and two draws from their last five matches, while Stellenbosch FC recorded two wins, two losses and one draw in the same number of games.
Stellies are once again eyeing a top eight finish this season, as they sit in 10th position with 32 points from 26 matches.
The recent 1-0 loss against Polokwane City means they now trail the eighth spot by three points with four games left of the campaign.
While Pirates enjoy a nine-day period without playing since the Soweto Derby, Abdeslam Ouaddou spoke of his relief at the Sea Robbers recharging their batteries.
“I always say to my boys they’re doing a fantastic job because they started working last July and if you calculate the number of days of intense training (its a lot) and I’m not even counting the national team players because it’s more games,” Ouaddou said.
“So yes, I think we get about nine days now and it’s important for them to rest because they’re not robots, they are human and more especially if you see the effort they put into the game at the speed we demand so it’s important for them to rest.”
