World no. 9 J.J. Spaun heads to the Charles Schwab Challenge as the highest-ranked player in the field.
The American makes only his fifth appearance at Colonial, where he put in a strong performance last year after struggling on the course in his previous four visits.
Spaun shot rounds of 66-68-70-69 to finish in T6, five strokes behind winner Ben Griffin in 2025, having missed the cut in 2018 and 2024, while only managing a T63 in 2023.
The 35-year-old won his first major a few weeks later at the US Open and he claimed victory at the Texas Open for the second time last month to secure his third success on the PGA Tour.
Spaun recently achieved just his second top 10 in 2026 with a T5 at the Truist Championship, but he found the going tough at the second major of the year one week later after missing the cut at the PGA Championship.
The 2025 United States Ryder Cup member admitted he put undue pressure on himself following his major win and is now trying to play more freely again.
"I put a lot of pressure on myself this year to start the year, and a lot of expectations," Spaun said. "It's the complete opposite of the mantra I had all year last year that really helped me, so I tried to get back to that.
"Went into the last few weeks starting at The Players just trying to be freed up and put less pressure on myself. It's been trying, but sticking to that mantra has really helped me."
